All hyperlinks and anchors that you create begin with a selection made with the text tool or the pointer tool before invoking HTML Author. Consequently, you can only create one hyperlink or anchor each time you bring up the HTML Author dialog box.
There are some restrictions on what selections can be make into a hyperlink or anchor. For example, you can't make a hyperlink or an anchor from a multiple selection, a selection on the pasteboard, or a selection on a master page. Hyperlinks cannot be made from certain PageMaker objects such as lines, polygons, and metafiles. Hyperlinks can be made from text selections, as long as they are selected with the text tool rather than the pointer tool. Only graphics that have been placed from an image file can be made into hyperlinks, as other graphics (such as those pasted from the Clipboard) cannot be converted to HTML. Although placed graphics can be made into hyperlinks whether they are inline or not, inline graphics must be selected with the text tool rather than the pointer tool. Selections that are already hyperlinks or that overlap existing hyperlinks cannot be made into hyperlinks themselves.
The rules for anchors are not as strict: Any single PageMaker object located on a regular publication page can be made into an anchor. Anchors are attached to objects. Thus, an anchor made from a text selection will reference the entire text block in which it resides.
